Videographer at Rhino Africa Safaris
I started off following a career path in mechanical engineering, a degree, 2 years in a factory, and a strong dose of a life-threatening illness, I realised I needed to focus on doing things that really mattered to me and to find a way to spend more time outside in nature.
Now you’ll find me behind the lens of a camera filming the best of Southern Africa’s wildlife, creating engaging content for Rhino Africa Safaris, or hanging upside down from a rope 35m in the air on one of the Western Cape’s never ending rock faces.
Back in my school/university days I played rugby for Wits University U21 until a shoulder injury prompted me to find new interests.
In 2014, I decided to jump on a bicycle and cycle 1850 km down the West Indian Coastline because it seemed like a good idea.
Since moving to Cape Town I’ve tried my hand at the 3 Peak Challenge, summited Sapitwa Peak, Mt Mulanje, Malawi, and most recently hiked across the Bell Traverse, in the Drakensberg.
I promised myself that I would make the most of any opportunity that comes my way, two bouts with cancer and I can say I have learnt how short life can be, so when the chance came to push myself to the limit while exploring one of the most humbling places on earth how could I refuse?
I’ve spent countless days filming Southern Africa’s most endangered species and have seen first hand the incredible beauty, power and vital role these specieses play in maintaining our fragile ecosystems. On a more personal level, during one of my first up-close encounters with a rhino, so close you could feel his breathe blowing on your hand. I took a step back to try comprehend the incredible presence of this creature. Dumbfounded and humbled, I think the real question has become how could you not do everything you can to help save them?
